Deputy commander-in-chief of Russian Navy arrives at Massawa port in Eritrea

The visit is part of the events marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Eritrea

HARARE, April 2. /TASS/. Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Vladimir Kasatonov has arrived at the port of Massawa (Eritrea) at the head of a representative delegation, the Eritrean Ministry of Information reported on its website.

The visit is part of the events marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Eritrea.

The Russian delegation was warmly welcomed by Chief of General Staff of the Eritrean Defense Forces, General Filipos Woldeyohannes, Commissioner of Culture and Sports Zemede Tekle, as well as high-level brass.

On March 28, the Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate of the Russian Pacific Fleet called at the port of Massawa, which was the first call of a Russian ship at Eritrea in Russia's modern history. A cultural and sports program is in store for the Russian marines in Massawa. The crew of the frigate has already visited the cemetery of martyrs, a local museum and played a friendly soccer match with the Eritrean Navy team.
